Unidos en la prevención de la Diabetes
En el Proyecto Familias Unidas previniendo la Diabetes, se planteó promover estilos de vida saludable en las personas que conviven con diabetes mellitus tipo 2 y en la población general, a través de la gestión del conocimiento para el cambio de comportamiento y atención integral que contribuyan a disminuir sus secuelas y mejorar la Calidad de vida.
Con este proyecto llegamos a San Juan del Rio Coco, Telpaneca, Totogalpa y San Lucas, Municipios de Madriz, en articulación y complementariedad con Centros de salud y Sectores de MOSAFC (Modelo de Salud Familiar y Comunitario)
En las acciones realizadas logramos:
- La Formación de 40 Auxiliares Comunitarios del Personal de Salud y 160 Promotores de Salud (Brigadistas)
- Organización de 18 Club de personas con Diabetes y con factores de Riesgo
- Atención Psicosocial a través de 8 Maratones Psicológicos con la atención a 240 personas.
- Movilización para la sensibilización sobre la Diabetes en coordinación con el Ministerio de Salud, mediante la realización de 12 Ferias de Salud, 12 Festivales Comunitarios y 8 Caminatas
- Comunicación para Cambio de Comportamiento a través de viñetas de radio y programas de Radio
- Equipamiento a Sectores MOSAFC con glucómetros para control de Glicemia a pacientes y captación de nuevos casos
- Equipamiento a Laboratorio de los 4 centros de Salud con analizador de Hemoglobina glicosilada para control de la Diabetes.
Como resultados:
- Se incrementó el diagnóstico de nuevos pacientes en un 15%, de 330 casos a 380 pacientes diagnosticados.
- Se redujo las complicaciones de la enfermedad en un 40%
- El 95% de los pacientes conocen los factores de riesgo de presentar la enfermedad. Entre ellos están:
- Obesidad,
- antecedentes familiares,
- alimentación no balaceada.
- 95% conocen las causas de las complicaciones de la enfermedad; entre las que más se identifican están:

- excederse en la dieta (73.68%),
- no tomar el tratamiento ( 84%),
- falta de cumplimiento de hábitos saludables (63.18%),
- falta de cuido de los pies ( 57.89%).
La DIABETES es una pandemia con síntomas que tardan en aparecer y puede pasar desapercibida; Una diabetes no diagnosticada o no controlada puede conducir a complicaciones.
LA DIABETES TIPO 1 se puede desarrollar a cualquier edad, generalmente menores de 20 años, LA DIABETES TIPO 2 es más frecuente en mayores de 40 años
