El corredor seco de Nicaragua y particularmente el corredor seco de Las Segovias, es un territorio altamente vulnerable en términos de seguridad alimentaria y de pobreza extrema. El COVID-19, ha incrementado la vulnerabilidad de las personas y familias más pobres en el corredor. Esto se ha manifestado en menores oportunidades para moverse en busca de empleos hacia otros países de la región, una reducción de la actividad comercial y una fuerte caída de remesas familiares.
En este contexto, El Instituto de Promoción Humana (INPRHU Somoto) y el Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza (CATIE), en el marco del proyecto “Adaptación de la agricultura al cambio climático a través de la cosecha de agua en Nicaragua”, desarrollado con el apoyo financiero de la Cooperación Suiza en América Central, han dispuesto recursos para beneficiar a cerca de 5,750 personas de 27 comunidades de los municipios de Totogalpa, Somoto, San Lucas y Yalagüina.
La iniciativa ha sido concebida como una ACCIÓN DE AYUDA HUMANITARIA para mitigar el impacto negativo de la pandemia del COVID-19, sobre la seguridad alimentaria y proveer apoyo a la reactivación productiva de familias rurales con alta vulnerabilidad alimentaria. Las organizaciones promotoras, han unido esfuerzos para seleccionar como familias beneficiarias a personas de la tercera edad con limitados recursos y en situaciones precarias de salud, madres solteras rurales con proles numerosas menores de 15 años, familias rurales pobres con miembros con alguna discapacidad, familias rurales numerosas cuyos ingresos dependen exclusivamente de la agricultura y jornaleros sin tierra con proles numerosas menores de 15 años.
Entrega de paquete de reactivación productiva- comunidad El Rodeo 2- Somoto
Con esta iniciativa se pretende:
- Dotar a 750 familias de un paquete complementario de alimentos y de un paquete para la reactivación productiva para el ciclo agrícola 2020. Con el paquete de reactivación productiva se aspira cultivar unas 375 manzanas de frijoles que pueden producir alrededor de 2,250 quintales y 562 manzanas de maíz con una producción estimada de 5,620 quintales para el consumo y para la producción de semilla, además de favorecer la diversificación de la dieta de las familias, con la producción de cinco productos hortícolas.
- Se brindará apoyo al funcionamiento de 20 comedores comunitarios que INPRHU ha venido desarrollando en 20 Comunidades de Totogalpa y San Lucas, y que atienden con alimentos complementarios e insumos de limpieza a alrededor de 2000 personas con alta vulnerabilidad alimentaria.
- Esta iniciativa también contempla acciones de comunicación que permitirán suministrar información preventiva sobre el COVID-19, y promover medidas que fortalezcan acciones preventivas, y de auto cuido de la población rural.
